The training session was held on 7 November 2024 at the EAS Congress 2024 and was attended by around 40 delegates from China-ASEAN countries. In this picture, delegates are discussing the remote sensing technology used in ASEAN countries after presentation (Suzhen Yang).

”It is still a big challenge on high resolution remote sensing of ocean areas globally,” said the session presenters at the China-ASEAN Ocean Remote Sensing Technology Training Workshop, held on 7 November 2024 at the EAS Congress in Xiamen, China.

Over 40 delegates from China-ASEAN countries attended this workshop, which serves as a venue to exchange information and experiences in the development and application of remote sensing. Dr. Zhong Ping Lee shared optical oceanography developments at Xiamen University and the application in HAB. Dr. Lang Chao shared the typical coastal and marine ecosystems remote sensing monitoring at the area of mangrove, seagrass, while Dr. Xi Meng shared the current status and future plans of Haiyang Satellites in China.

Professor Xu Suning shared the remote sensing application on geological disaster and taking the ASEAN countries as samples, while Dr. Yang Suzhen shared the application of remote sensing on Nature-based solutions and climate change.

“We believe that remote sensing technology training can improve the data sharing, technology application, governance and sustainable management for the coastal areas of China-ASEAN countries,” said the presenters.

The China-ASEAN Ocean Remote Sensing Technology Training Workshop concluded with the information exchange and experience in the development and application of remote sensing technology. This session is in line with Action 4 of the Xiamen Ministerial Declaration by promoting the adoption of ocean-based climate solutions, including innovative technologies and strategies to better manage and protect coastal resources.
